7 days to go - the moving van comes next Friday.
Packing is not fun - I seem to be moving things from point a to point b to point c - and not getting anywhere.
Decided to get rid of my everyday dishes - my brother mentioned he needed new dishes and I was looking for an excuse. And, I didn't have to pack them carefully. Yippee.
I will use my Christmas dishes until I find something I like. Good thing it will be November - would've looked a little weird to use the Christmas dishes in March. :rofl2:
Getting rid of all my Tupperware - getting rid of all my furniture except the bedroom set and computer desk - getting rid of the old humongous TV's - getting rid of one computer (now the age old dilemma arises again - Mac or Windows for my next computer.)
And still, the move is costing me over $4000. How can that be?
A fresh start for a new life.

It all sounds like a LOT of work but very exciting.
We moved 3 years ago after being in the one home for 38 years..........and I have a husband who hasn't thrown ANYTHING out in 45+ years of marriage! Every single bit of junk came with us.......much to my disappointment and dismay!!!!

It does sound a lot Janice but how far is it from your old home to you new home - don't removalists charge by the mile?

Out with the old and in with the new, Janice! (you are only a couple of months early for that!). It's better than having to move it and you have an excuse for getting new stuff!!!:D I tend to agree with Karen, that it is probably the mileage that racks up the cost!

Oh, Robyn, to have to move ALL THAT STUFF!!! I feel your pain:eek:! I have been in my house for 33 years and hope I never have to move. I admit I am the "collector" one in my family, but I do try (and still am trying) to declutter. But I will get rid of stuff - it's just finding where to take it/give it/sell it - I don't like to throw out perfectly good (and some practically new) stuff!! DH and I were in a 2-bedroom apartment for a little over a year before we moved to our house and I HATED moving all that stuff, then (which was a fraction of what I have now).

Oh I could not move, or bear to give up my collections. Fear in the thought

I should write a book on how many times I have moved!!!!
But I love the military moving the best. They come in and pack everything, and I mean EVERYTHING. Make sure your garbage cans are empty because otherwise you will be unpacking garbage!!!! Then every box is numbered and listed. When the truck gets to your new place, you just sit there as they carry every box into the house. They call off the number of the box and you check it off. The only thing you have to do is unpack!!
I hope everything goes well, Janice. It is a LOT of work!! Don't forget to take photos!!!! :)

Oh Janice I don't envy you the moving part of it (been there, done it) but once it's all over and you're in your new home everything will be wonderful!
And not only will you have a new home in a nice new location, with the promise of new friends...you'll have a new computer!! lol !
Choose a Mac! :D :D :D

don't envy you the move but the end location would be good, if I didn't have to move half way round the world lol...we moved nearly a year ago and it wasn't good...we had to move my mum and us into one house and mum wasn't exactly a hoarder she just didn't get rid of stuff and there was 20 years of accumulation from her unit which had stuff in there from when she was first married back in 1952...mum had more stuff than we did, had a great garage sale though and made $$$

My last move was 15 years ago, and I got rid of a ton of stuff. Never again I said to myself, and I have kept to that motto. Every 6 months I go through my house. If I haven't looked at it, or used it in 6 months it get's thrown away. My husband on the other hand is a different story. I have to beg him to stop bringing home JUNK that he finds.
As far as MAC or Windows, I just bought my first MAC from being a windows user my whole life. I'll NEVER go back to windows is all I can say on that one.
Good luck with the move.

Janice.... When I moved to Florida in 1987 from Syracuse, it cost over 2000 for Mayflower. Unfortunately is goes on sq ft and weight vs mileage. They have to calculate the price of gas, even though they plan your move with say someone coming to Georgia or farther south in Florida. There were 2 other homes and a car on the truck that brought our stuff. I had gotten rid of a lot of stuff and furniture, and I thought that price was outrageous.... So I know where you are coming from... Excitement is still there, new home, new friends.....no snow, winter boots and coats...!!!!:):)

Robyn....I feel your pain..... My mother was a pack rat....She had moved to Florida in 1985 and became ill, thats how I got here.... When we packed my parents up to move I had found envelopes dated back to 1980...... and stuff that hadn't moved since I don't know how long!!!!!

I'm not sure how I would do with a big move. Same house, almost 28 years now.
Lots of stuff, needs to go, but--I look at some things, and its those memories, and having some 'stuff' from the past. [Yesterday, I found a pacifier Megan had from birth!]
Bill says, he'll clear out some 'stuff' once he retires.
Robyn, I remember your move...
Good luck Janice, with the move and the new house.

Good luck with your move, Janice! Keep your thoughts on how good things will be once you get past the tough times of packing it all!

Julie...do you hire out? Wanna come to Oklahoma? :D Pleeeeeze?
Janice...I so know what you mean! Also been there, done that! And who cares if you use Christmas dishes in March...as long as you do it with aplomb.... :) But how exciting! I've often thought of making Mac my next computer. The only thing that stops me is the thought of having to replace all my software....

My house is bare and we are still living here.
Yesterday, a woman DH works with come over with her sister and nephews and they packed an entire moving truck with our stuff. They even took those huge old TV's - so glad to see them go.
We now have a couple of kitchen chairs and a mattress from which we watch TV. I did break down and purchased a 27 inch HD TV for use here until we move and there until we buy a big screen TV.
Kids are here and one had to bring a cot or he wouldn't have had any place to sleep last night.
The only thing left in this house is my junk, one double bed, and our bedroom set.
I feel so free.
Kids were a big help. All the boxes in the basement are marked and taped. The stuff up here is mostly packed.
DS2 will wipe out my hard drive today. I can't wait to "clean house" there, too. Windows 7 vs McAfee computer gremlins - wish they'd just leave me alone.
Another reason to buy a Mac????
