I just waited 241 seconds (4 minutes) to download a file that only took 1 minute to actually download.

4Shared has been a trial through the years, but never this bad. I could 'put up with it'.. for a freebie. 5 MINTUES FOR A FILE.. come on. The 30mb zip files don't take that long to download.

Anyway, not fun, especially when you're in a hurry.

well what can I say ... it's a free site after all so don't look a given horse in the mouth ...that's a Dutch saying.:)

patience patience and if i don't have it I forgo the freebie

Try to clean out your browsing history, and temporary internet files [under tools from the menu]
Sometimes that helps.

I think they are just pushing for their paid version w/o advertising. ;)

What about Boxnet? Might that work better?

I usually get only 20 seconds to wait it's when you try and download more times in a row that the waiting time gets longer and longer.

That's a good idea! Has anyone tried that yet?

We are soooo sorry for the inconvenience. We pay for this account so it's not free and thought it would be no problem for the members. I'll talk to Robyn and see if we might have another solution. Ellen... did you get the kit?

Sandy, I find the download from a paid 4-shared account to be fast.

The downloads for freebies from a free 4-shared account can be slow if the person downloading does not have a paid 4-shared account.

Sandy, when I click on the Den's paid 4shared account, the download is instant!

I appreciate and thank you for the Den's 4shared paid account.

I think the other posters were referring to downloading freebies from a free 4shared account.

I tend to agree with Grace on this. I don't usually have any problem/long wait downloading from the Den's 4shared account; but when I am downloading freebies on the net, like blog trains, etc., if they don't give me a choice of box.net or mediafire, I will try the 4shared link--but once I see that it is 150 or more, I just click off and forget it.

I do notice that, as Ellen said, the more you download from 4shared, the longer the wait time is. Clearing my temp files and such does not seem to make a difference. If I reboot my computer or try again another day, my initial (free) 4shared downloads are short. I have come to the realization that as long as it is a paid 4shared account, you will have a short wait (like 20 seconds). Otherwise the freebie accounts start high and as you download more and more, the wait gets longer and longer.

I think that 4shared has a lot more competition now and if you want short waits, now you will have to pay for them!Christmas8

AN ADDED NOTE: I just downloaded 4 holiday QPs that Athena is offering. She had a choice of 4shared or Sendspace download links. Just for fun, I chose 4 shared and it was 257 seconds; clicked that off and tried Sendspace--it was instant!!

Yes, you are all right. 4shared is faster for the Den's Newsletter Downloads. It's the subsequent downloads from the Freebie Gallery or others who use 4 shared that add the minutes to wait for a download (the ones that don't have a paid account, and just use the free service).

Yes, each download is more seconds to wait. It goes up by 30 seconds each download.. so when it gets over 1 minute, I quit for the day and wait for another day to download.. they add those downloads up somehow with cookies or keep your IP addy for the day.

Anyway,,,, I was just venting my frustration with 4Shared, not anyone here...

And 4Shared could make the free service a lot easier to use.. It used to be a breeze to use. I guess making it harder to use the free service, they get more people to pay. If it's harder and harder to use, maybe they'll get more people to pay for it.. well, not me.

It's just that 4Shared has been getting worse and worse.

Ohhhh. I misunderstood. We bought the 4shared account to be able to offer more freebies such as the quick pages and we wouldn't have to worry about getting them off the server. This way we don't have to have an expiration on them.

I have my own paid for 4shared account and my dl's are really quick and I also don't have the xx number of seconds wait between files either. So I can't really ad my two bobs worth to this discussion as too whether or not the dens account is quick or slow for dl's..sorry

I have had more problems than I care to even count, however, today I was trying to download the "Go Green" gift. After nine tries with 4shared I finally received the actual "download" button. I found out if I continue trying to get the download even after receiving the message "The file link that you requested is not valid." 4shared will eventually let me download. The actual wait for the download to begin is ridiculous -- takes what seems forever. I loved this "Go Green" and really wanted it so I was very persistent in trying to get 4shared to let me download -- this happens a lot with 4shared. I frequently clean out my browsing history and temporary internet files. If 4shared wants me to become a paid subscriber for downloads there is no possible way I can do that. I am a senior (soon to be 72 yrs) and on such limited income that I am unable to afford any extra costs. I so very much appreciate all the special gifts you give me. You have truly blessed me with them.

I have tried clearing out the 'cookies' but it doesn't make any difference either.

The Go Green gift is apparently on a free 4 shared account.
Usually our designers use our paid account with 4Shared and there is not a problem with that.

I have also experienced the LOOOOOOOOng wait at 4shared, but only for free accounts. There has never been a problem with the Den's 4shared paid account - the downloads have been almost instantaneous. I keep my browser and cookies cleaned up, so I would guess the problem is with 4shared. Like Ellen, I have found that if you are using it over and over, the wait times get longer and longer.

I also have a paid 4shared account and have had for several years. I've never had any problems with the Den account, either. But I know well the frustration of the long waits with the free accounts. If I am not signed into my paid account, I will often get the wait for freebies, too. Part of the wait is because of bandwidth limitations. 4shared is likely one of the biggest sharing sites around...and you have to figure that there are always a bunch of download/uploads going on at any given moment. Not defending them...I agree with what has been said about them attempting to move users to paid status; but bandwidth adds to the frustrations.
