I have written a tutorial for PSE users on how to install Photoshop Styles. I am looking for 1-2 of you who use PSE, do NOT know how to install styles, but want to learn. I will email you the instructions and a style of your choosing from my store. In exchange, I would like for you to read the instructions and install the style in your PSE program, then give me feedback on how easy/hard it was for you, or if there is anything I can include in the instructions that would have made things for clear for you.
Because I will be working on something else today, I will not be "ever present" in the forum today, so if you can help, please email me directly at:
KarenSchulz01 at aol.com
and I'll get right back to you!
Thank you so much!

Thanks, Michi! LOL - PSE 7 is the ONLY one I have, so between the two of us we've got it pretty well covered.

help I've downloaded the new XML file as I didn't have any included when I bought a style set and when I open it all it shows me is
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
- (file:///D:/digibits-Digiden/SD_XML_Files/SD_ClearStyles.metadata.xml#) <PSEContent xmlns="http://ns.adobe.com/PSEContent/2.0/">
<subscription value="free" />
<type value="style" />
<category value="$$$/content/category/type/SD_ClearStyles=SD_ClearStyles" />
</PSEContent>
now what?? what do i need this for what do i do with it ? I'm still no wiser as to how or what
when i use a style it covers up all the details of the design say when it has some embossed bits on a brad it hides the embossed bits.

Hi Ellen,
Code is pretty much out of my area of expertise.
I'm sure Karen will be able to answer this once she sees your post.
EDIT...........I THINK (??) Karen covered this in her tutorial that she had in the newsletter freebie this week.

Help! I THINK I have downloaded the style(s) for this tutorial. But in the folder where I unzipped, there is just ONE ASL File. There are at least 15 XML files that were unzipped. Are there supposed to be 15 different styles? If so, how do I extract them out of this one file to install. I'm using Elements 8. I got the XML files copied to the path, but I guess they don't have anything to label.

There should only be one .asl file - all the styles are in that one file. You will have to wait for Karen regarding the .xml files.

Hi Ellen! I'm sorry to leave you hanging here! We left town on Friday and just returned last night!
So let me see if I understand your problems.
You are concerned about the contents of the xml file that you downloaded for the Clear Styles? What you see is correct. I know that the format was changed when you copied/pasted here, but I just double-checked the xml file that was included in the download, and it is correct. I also installed it in PSE7 prior to releasing the code, so know that it works.
Did you pick up the Styles Tutorial in the Den Newsletter? There were two: (1) How to install Styles in PSE, and (2) How to create .xml files. Since you have the .xml file (the coding), you want to reference the first tutorial on how to install it. The instructions are step-by-step, and I don't think you'll have a problem with it. If you did not pick up the tutorial, please PM me and I'll send it to you.
You are also concerned that when you use a style it covers up any embossed (or other) parts of the style. Yes, that is true. There is a way around that is CS versions, but I don't believe there is one in PSE - Karen (the "other" Karen), is that true? What you would need to do, as far as I know, in PSE, is... well, let's see what Karen has to say. She teaches PSE and if anyone will know she will.
You mentioned the Clear Style, and I know that came with my Granite Style set. To properly use the clear style, you will need to create your elements (let's just say a simple circle), then duplicate it. Apply the granite style to the original circle, then apply the Clear Style to the duplicated circle (which will be on top of the granite circle). You will then see the clear style on top of the granite style. As you said, if you apply the clear style to an element or shape, it will make that element/shape clear. But it you want it to be OVER something else, then you can get that effect by this method.
I think that answers your questions, but if not, please PM me or simply post here.

I would like to know too Karen. If you can give Ellen destructions here I will have a look and see if there is a work around in PSE.

Yep, yep, yep! Nancy was pulling her hair out, but now just look at that lovely head of hair! ;)
Okay - in CS if you want to apply a style to an element and not lose the characteristics of the elements....
Open the element.
Duplicate it.
Apple the style to the duplicated element.
In the Layers Palette, on the duplicated element, double click on the Pattern of the
style you just applied to open the diaglogue box.
Now (making sure you are in the Pattern Overlay Dialogue box), just change the blending
mode to whatever looks best. Sometimes it is Overlay, but sometimes other options
give a better look. But you should be able to see the "nooks and crannies" from the
original element that you are trying to retain
