I went from IE to FireFox a while back, maybe March of this yr. and I want to do some major house cleaning in the "adding and removing programs" area...Problem: It will open and say...Please wait will list is being populated...Well I have been waiting till the cows come home!!!

Could it be a setting that needs changing!!! HELP!!!!

Hi Andrea! I'm not a tech geek but I don't think that the browser has anything to do with the Add or Remove Programs on the PC.

I clicked on the Add or Remove Programs and it took a minute for the list to be populated.

Hopefully Vicki or Traci will see your question and be able to help you.

I'm with Grace on this one. Should have zero to do with the browser.
You should be able to delete whatever programs, files and old stuff at you leisure.
All the best

Yes, the other posters are right. The browser you are doing has nothing to do with Add or Remove Programs - that's specifically a Windows thing.

It can take a very long time to generate the list of programs. It took about 15 minutes on my laptop. If rebooting does't help, I would let it start the search before bed time and check it in the morning. It shouldn't need any where near that amount of time to run, but at least it won't interfere with your computing that way.

If it is still running in the morning, you've got more trouble than we will be able to help here - everything I find when I google this problem require lots of technical fixes.

Thanxs Ladies.. Didn't think it had anything to do with the browser. I left it opened the whole time I was out getting groceries, to no luck when I came back. Guess it is time to take it down street.

Andrea, I hope you're up and running soon with your computer.

Well the trip to the computer doc will have to wait for a few days...Been working on a project and have to have it completed before months end....Then Matilda can go to the doc and get a tune up....^p

Andrea, that's great that you're able to use your computer. Do you have a spare computer that you can use when Matilda goes to the doc?

Sorry I was late getting to this, A! I'm in the middle of a master's level course on design and I am seriously SLAMMED! But loving it!

Everyone here has answered correctly....the browser switch has nothing to do with the way a list populates. Without knowing which OS you are using (XP, Vista, or 7...or something else) I don't think I can be of much help. The short answer is that there is not a setting that influences how quickly a list populates. I suspect that something has become corrupted within the system, which is not, unfortunately, uncommon. A trip to the doc for Matilda is likely the best bet here, unless you are comfortable dickering with the registry or repairing the operating system. Sure wish I could be of more help...

No problem Traci... Well, Matilda didn't wait to be taken to the docs. I ran a recovery program on her...Found it to be terminal and when it was completed I had more problems!! Michael wiped out my harddrive and reinstalled XP (it was only 10 yrs old) for me and the problems were still there. So we went down street and picked up Windows 7 and installed it. So I was in the process of getting my stuff from Carbonite and preparing for the long haul of downloading again...when I found in the C drive a file that read...C\windows.old. Just for giggles I opened it and there were all the files I would have be getting from Carbonite...So I have getting my stuff back a little at a time..Don't have the problems that I did before!!!! Just a headache from a new learning curve!

Poor A! Learning a new OS can be a PIA...but I think you'll like 7. It is vastly more stable than even XP...and the eye candy is nice, too. Personally, I don't use Windows Live Mail, preferring Microsoft Outlook. But Live Mail is...marginally all right. That was one of those features that they should have left alone...Outlook Express, I mean. One woman's opinion.

There are so many new features in 7 that it would pay to go to the Microsoft site and take a low pass through the "what's new" area for 7 (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/products/what-is). It will be worth the time. Then, if you have questions, be sure to post here....I know there are several of us that are using 7 now....
