I'm SO excited! We ordered some new living room furniture last week. Should arrive in about eight weeks.

But, I'm even MORE excited about the new Amazon Kindle 3 I just ordered! It will be released August 27. I'm an avid reader, and we're running out of bookshelf space, so I think this Kindle is just what I need. daisy

Do any of you have experience with eReaders? Do you enjoy them? I know the iPad can do much more, but I wanted a dedicated eReader that would fit in my purse.

I have a Kindle. I am an avid reader as well. I have found that I really prefer the tactile experience of holding a book and turning the pages. What I didn't like about the Kindle was not really knowing how many more pages I had to go to finish a chapter (unless I scrolled thru, and then scrolled back). And alhough I know you can look at the % of the book left, the conclusion always comes on me abruptly! What I DO like about it; however, is that if you have time to read during travel times (like if you take a train to work), it is awesome. I don't take a train to work ;) but I did take it with me on vacation and loved having it handy for the airport, the airplane, and times inbetween. I think it's a great device and can be wonderful, based upon everyone's personal preferences. In summary, I like it, but only in certain situations - for me.

Thanks, Karen. I'm hoping I like it especially when traveling or wanting to read outside in our windy weather!

I have a Nook, but I haven't had it that long so I really haven't gotten into using it too much yet. I have already learned how to download a book, but that's as far as I've gotten! One thing I can say about it is that you need to be at a light to read it (just like a regular book) as the Nook is not backlit - don't know if the Kindle is or not.

Showing my ignorance here.............but I've never heard of a Kindle! What exactly is it; some kind of electronic reader I take it?

Right, Diane. Dedicated eReaders are not backlit. This is so there is less strain on your eyes. You can buy cute little Nook/Kindle lights that attach to the eReader for reading in dimly lit areas, like in bed at night! Once I get my eReader, I'll decide on what accessories I want (cover, light, earphones). :D

Robyn, if you go to Amazon.com, the Kindle will be right on the home page. Or if you go to BarnesandNoble.com, their Nook will be advertised on the home page.

The eReaders for your PC or mobile phones are free. But they are not as nice since you are tied to your computer or cell phone (small), and both are backlit which strains your eyes. I did download the free Kindle app to my iPhone just to see what it's like.
