Has anyone in the southern hemisphere seen the southern lights over the past couple of days. Apparently there is a huge solar storm at the minute and there should be Aurora to be seen.

I assume this would also apply to the northern hemisphere only it is called the Aurora Borelais.

Hey Karen, I didn't know, depending on what side of the earth they are seen, they had different names! I just saw this on Yahoo! today, don't know if this is an extension of the one in your area. Here's the link - hope it works!

The link did work, thanks Diane. If the clouds disappear tonight I am going to see if I can see anything.

Karen, I saw this on the news last night. But they only mentioned how spectacular it would look in countries in the far north of the globe! I haven't noticed anything in this part of the world..........I must look tonight.

Hmmm, I wonder if Wyoming, USA is considered far north. We got to see the Aurora Borealis one time in Wyoming, but it was only creamy white. I'll have to look into this. Wouldn't want to miss it.

On our news, they said Florida is NOT up high enough. I'll be depending on news feed to view.

Far north........I think the report was saying in the Arctic circle. I don't think Florida is going to quite make it! :rofl2:

I'm sure I would have a better chance if I still lived in Michigan. I have seen some fabulous sightings when I lived there, but don't know if we can see them way down here in the southern United States.

We are supposed to be getting a view of the Northern Lights just now, but it is so cloudy at the moment that there isn't a good view.:(

Just got a call from dd in upper Michigan. She said she can see them but not very bright.

I saw this too on the news the other night Karen and apparently we need to be further south...NZ are getting a right royal viewing though..looks beautiful...doubt if we'd see it here in SA coz the weather has been so overcast I've almost forgotten what the sun looks like flares or not :)

Would love to see the lights, but alas I don't think that will be possible in Kansas. Sigh!
