Do you like to read? What kinds of books?

I have a problem when it comes to reading. I can't put a book down once I've started it. I read the entire Twilight series in 4 days. I read the first 14 books in Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series in about 3 weeks - only because I had to wait for then to become available at the library. I read all kinds of books - most are recommended by friends. Recent books I've read:

Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins - was disappointed by the end
Sizzling Sixteen by Janet Evanovich -hilarious and much better than Finger Lickin' Fifteen
Graceling by Kristin Cashore - interesting scifi/fantasy concept
Rhett Butler's People by Daniel McCraig - I'm a huge Gone With The Wind Fan but didn't like this book at all!
Dead In The Family by Charlaine Harris - liked this one better than the last few in the series

What have you read recently? Any book suggestions?

Now, mind you, I am NOT a reader in any sense of the word, but I was able to pick up the complete series of Left Behind and-------well lets just say I finished all 11 books in TWO weeks!!!! And now I want to read them again!!!!
Of course that was when I lived by myself in Michigan with no grandkids to watch. I would sit up all night and polish off one book.

I listened to the Left Behind series on tape about 10 years ago on a long drive from one end of the country to the other and back. Couldn't stop. I'm lucky to get my Photoshop magazine read these days.
Oh the latest I read was The Shack by William P. Young, Want to read that again. I have another series one but can't remember the name now.

oh yes I'd be lost without a book in fact I cannot sleep if I don't read in bed first. and when I cannot sleep at night I get up and curl up in my chair with my book for a while.:)

I love reading ( medical) crime fiction Robin Cook- Scarpetta- Ian Rankin and the likes and all the novels by Jody Picoult I'll read them in one go.

living in the Highlands made me read the books by Diana Gabaldon there's a whole series but after 2 I just gave up as I lost ineterest.
Any book about Australia will keep me riveted.

I'm so disappointed to hear about Rhett Butler's People:( As soon as I saw it I knew I had to have it. Well, guess I'll read it anyway to see if maybe I like it.

My latest fav is J.D. Robb's Death series. It's set in the future and follows the life of a female police officer and her hunky, Irish, richer than thou hubby, Roark. Very interesting characters and murder mysteries.

My big problem with Rhett Butler's people is that it doesn't really fit with what went on in Gone With The Wind and GWTW's sequel Scarlett. I do have a friend that is a big GWTW fan that really likes the books. She loves anything about Scarlett though. Here's daughter's middle name is Scarlett!

Don't get much time for reading nowadays... but when I do, other than camera and photography books, I read Nora Roberts, Sandra Brown... way back when, when I was young and foolish.. Danielle Steele and even still have all of her books and movies....

I love to read! Some of my favorite authors are Nora Roberts, Lisa Jackson, Tess Gerritsen, James Patterson......and a few more.

I also finished the Twilight serious in less than a week. When I get into a book, it's so hard to get out of it. I recently bought the Sookie Stackhouse series and can't wait to read them. I have so many books.........need to get busy reading. Currently reading Forbidden Games by L.J. Smith.

You will LOVE the SS series. Just keep in mind that everyone has different "rules" for vamps in their books. That was the hardest thing for me when I started reading SS because the only vamp books I had read before that was the Twilight series. Feel free to PM me if you want to discuss any of the SS books!

Melissa - I forgot to mention that I've also read the Host by Stephenie Meyer. I resisted reading it for a long time because I didn't think it would compare to the Twilight books but I really liked it. It is written for adults not teens so I found that more appealing.

I received the Host for my birthday this year. Haven't read it yet, but it's on my list.

I like to read, just don't get much time. I love mysteries and courtroom dramas. Currently, I'm reading 61 Hours by Lee Child (I think I have read all his books) As a kid, I lived at the Library and now I make regular trips to the used book store.

Nora Roberts and when she writes as JD Robb - has to be my all time favorite author right now. The Death series are wonderful, but don't miss her trilogies when she mixes science fiction/witchcraft/etc in romance stories.

She's come a long way from her
romance novel days.

If you are looking for another detective series, back in the 80's I read the books by Dick Francis - detective stories with a backdrop of steeplechase racing.

I like things that are simple to read - things I can put down and pick back up without wondering where I left off -- but not as simple as romance novels.

Oh I love to read. Once I get a book, don't bother me I need to finish it! I keep feeling that pull when I can sit and read, but with two children that makes it very hard. Other than childrens' books that I'm reading to my kids I love msyteries, medical, fanatsy, dectivies.... okay so I like a lot.

Some of my favs are...

Kay Hooper - I love her Bishop series. It deals with police and using supranatural powers, but an excellent read. I'm currenlty waiting on her new book.

Tami Hoag - I love all her books.

? - Scrapette is the main person in the books, but I can't remember the author's name at the moment. These are like CSI.

?- V.i. Warshawski - dectivite series. Again I can't remember the author's name.

My newest favorite is Kim Harrison her Hollows series. It's about a bounty hunter, but with a twist. The characters are humans, elves, vampires, weres, witches, demons, and banshees. So far there are 8 books out there and they all flow from one to the next one. Her next one comes out in February and I'm on pins and needles waiting to see what happens next. I read all 8 books in 2 weeks straight and there are times where I just pick up one again to read it. Talk about addicting.

I know there are more, but I'm tired and just finished working. I can't remember them now.

My favorites are mysteries. Right now I'm reading an old one by Leslie Ford - published in 1937! I read most of her books when I was in high school and recently found a bunch at the bookstore where I go to trade my paperbacks, so I got them. It's interesting reading about that time period.

I love to read too. I like Medical thrillers, too, Ellen, like those by Robin Cook. I also like Nora Roberts, Mary Higgins Clark, Fern Michaels, James Patterson and other Mystery books. I also like Anne Rice's vampire books. When I go fishing with my hubby, I read and he fishes. I even like to read children's books. I also enjoy books by Grace Livingston Hill.

Oh Donna, Anne Rice I forgot about her. The kids books I've been reading are beginner reading. My daughter is just starting to learn how to read. My son loves books too, but he's younger so the pages don't have much reading on them. He still loves to listen though. both of their favorite is the Magic Tree house series by Mary Pope Osborne. I love them too and wonder where they were when I was a child. The imagation and learning it inspires.

What a great thread Kelly! I've been looking for some different authors to read! Well... I can't put a Dean Koontz book down. I have read almost all of them. I love his style of writing even if the stories are a bit bizarre! Hmmmm... maybe that says something about me!

I go through a book a week. And usually I don't know the title or the author when I'm done with it. I buy them in bulk at tag sales and such and just pick one up and start reading! I'm the same way with movies. I get so engrossed in them but can't remember the name of the movie or who was in it to save my soul unless they are a well known actor of course.

Wow! It seems we all tend to like the same authors! Robin Cook, J.D.Robb, Patricia Cornwell (that's the Scarpetta series), James Patterson, Dean Koontz have all kept me up at nights;) I haven't read the Sookie Stackhouse series but I am a huge fan of the HBO series True Blood, which is based on those books. Stephen King, in his heydays, was one of my very favorite authors. Read The Shining with every single light on in the house. Scared me silly!

I love True Blood as well.

Some other books I like are the historical, I guess that is what you would call them. I loved the book, The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory and many of her other books. It amazes me at how women were treated back then and how they were used.

I get all my books from the library. They know me there. :) My house is tiny. I used to have a lot of books before I had kids. To make room for the kids I sold my books (but kept my scrapbook stuff!).

I get mine from the library too .
I hardly ever buy books as I only read them once and we've got " the shed" where everyone dumps their surplus furniture and stuff for recycling.
That's great as there are loads of books and when you've finished you take them back and swap.

Jonathan Kellermann is another author I read every book he writes

I love to read, but don't always have the time. I am currently reading Eclipse (#3 Twilight series). Read #1 fast, then saw the movies first for #2 (which I read) and #3 so it's taking me longer to read that one, too. I have #4 sitting and waiting for me. Hopefully I will get to that one before they make the 2 movies on it! Kelly, did you also read the Twilight-based novelette (Secret Life of Bree - or something like that). If so, did you like that one?

Kelly, I also love anything "Gone with the Wind" and I do have Rhett Butler's People also waiting to be read! I agree with Becky that I was disappointed to hear that wasn't very good - but I will take her tack on it and eventually read it anyway (and you did say your friend liked it); so hopefully there is some hope for it yet!

Ellen, I have the WHOLE Diana Gabaldron series and haven't read any of them yet - but what attracted me to them was the "time travel" facet. I was hoping I could fly thru the series once I started them, but now I am wondering if it will hold my interest -- I guess we will see when I get around to starting them!

I also love Danielle Steele and have read tons of her books and still have tons to read! I don't think I should go to the bookstore for a while!

I'm not a kid -far from it!!! But I read the entire Harry Potter series and loved it. I also enjoy books by Mary Higgins Clark. Many of the mystery series type books that I've been reading lately feature "senior sleuths" - I can identify with them!

Diane - I read the Second Short Life of Bree and thought it was good. It was neat to see it from her view and the things the "army" was told.

Phyllis - I have that set as well. Another one I need to get busy reading.

I actually haven't read the Secret Life of Bree. I'm not sure I'm that interested in that story. I did however read the unfinished transcript of Midnight Sun (Twilight from Edward's perspective) on Stephenie Meyer's website. It was leaked and she didn't finish it but she did post the version that had been leaked. If you are Team Edward you will LOVE it. It makes Edward even more endearing to me. I'm Team Edward for the books and Team Jacob for the movies. I think Melissa Rosenberg (the screenplay writer for the movies) must be a Jacob fan because she makes him so much more endearing than Edward in the movies.

Oh I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Harry Potter too! Is it me or do the books seem really dark for their intended audience? I thought the same thing about the Hunger Games series.

Hmmm.. I'm needing some new reading material, most of my books are so worn on the spine from constantly being read..

I've read The entire Twilight series, The Harry Potter Series, Eragon, Eldest and Brisnger by Chistopher Paolini and the short second life of Bree Tanner and The Host.. My dad and I swap Stephen King books, but I'm a little scared of them to be honast..

I've been recommended to go read the A Trial of Blood and Steel series by Joel Shepherd, starting at Sasha and ending with Haven, I might get them a day or two before I trip over to Melbourne so I have something to read on the flight.

Still waiting on the 4th (and FINAL) book from Christopher Paolini, He's quiet, so I'm hoping he's hard at work writing that book, I've been left on a cliffhanger and it's doing my head!

I have yet to read any of Harry Potter's books. I will give them a go once my daughter is a bit older. I wanted to wait to share the experience with her, but maybe if its a bit dark, I may read them prior to.

Oh the library is where I get my books too. Although I had to buy the Hollow series as it was not at the library at all. That's okay though as I love rereading those as I realize sometimes life is not as bad as i think it is and someone else has a harder life.

I love to read and a lot of the authors that have already been mentioned here in this thread are also popular with me.

Two great Australian authors are Colleen McCullough and Tim Winton........love their books.

I have read a lot of books written by Peter James (http://www.peterjames.com/), but not recently. I could probably read them again because I can't remember all the plots. One of them (I THINK it was Denial) produced a suprise ending/twist on the very last page.....I loved that!

I love Colleen McCullough but have never read anything by Tim Winton , i'll have to see if they got any in the library and the ones by Tamara McKinley I would read in one go.
