I have just installed this font and want to try it. I love the look of grunge. Smudgers is the name and here (http://www.dafont.com/smudgers.font) is where it can be found.

Thanks, Sandy! I got it too. Do you download several and then never get around to using them? I do!! I have to remind myself to look thru the stash and use something different.

BTW, while we are on this subject. How do you look at your fonts? Do you have a program for that or just look at them in Photoshop?

My faves are the Pea fonts from Kevin and Amanda.
Great thing is you can use in your kits if you share your kit with them. Check them out here (http://kevinandamanda.com/fonts/fontsforpeas/).

It's been awhile since I've scrapped so I haven't thought much about fonts. This will get me thinking about them again--and that's bad news for my HD since I love to collect them!!:D

Oh my gosh, Ladies! I have over 1000 fonts on my computer and wouldn't you know it, I had to download some more from this thread.
Sandy, if you love those grunge ones (me, too), try Dirty Ego and Bleeding Cowboys (I just google their names, easy to find). Thanks for Smudgers, I didn't have that one! giggle
And Ellen, old typewriter fonts, love them, too. I believe I have a collection of them, now to just find them again.
I usually keep my fonts arranged in Printers Apprentice, a program for fonts, but when I upgraded to Windows 7, I had to upgrade Apprentice and I somehow lost the organization, I need to do that again. Maybe this thread will inspire me to get them organized again. It is so much easier to find what you want! LOL
Thanks everyone for sharing your great fonts!

I just looked at mine... Presently have over 2300. That included the more than 340 of the Kevin and Amanda Pea Fonts :o
not all are on the windows font place.
Many are kept in a separate folder called "fonts":p
They are categorized in sub-folders by type [no pun intended]:
Calligraphy, children, CK Fonts, dingbat, fat [title]. grunge, handwritten, holiday, K & A Pea Fonts, Retro, script, stamped, typewriter, western
I can view mine using ACDSee, although, I am tempted to one day purchase that font thingy.

Michi, you are soooo organized!!! Good for you!
I use The Font Thing to view mine. You can type a sample to see what it looks like. But, I have to scroll thru .. no sub folders!

Wow! some great fonts, thanks to you all. I'm also a collector, but I seem to use my favorites over and over, or maybe I'm just to lazy to find others. :) I use AMP font viewer. It's very easy to use, and I can keep my fonts on an ex.HD.
Two favorites.. A Yummy Apology.. and .. Brush Script.

Microsoft 7 is great because you can look through all your fonts and see examples of them so you can see what they look like. Then you hit install and you are set to go.

Does anyone know of a way to only 'load" your fonts, into whatever program you are using, when you want to use them? I heard this was possible, but I have not been able to figure it out.

I have AMP Font Viewer. It will load it to the control panel. But I have Vista and it tells me no when I try. I think it was free. It's nice though to be able to actually see what the fonts look like after you download them.
Just don't overload your control panel with fonts though.

Do you have a program for that or just look at them in Photoshop
Since I have a new computer, most of the fonts are presently uninstalled. They are waiting in a file and when I want to use one I think I'll use again, I install it. If I had a Christmas one or something like that, I would probably use it from the file folder. I don't like to do that, though, because when you next open the psd, Photoshop yells at you that they can't find the font. Well, mind your own business Photoshop!

Yes,
first close your program.
Open the font, wherever you have it 'stored' and minimize it.
Then open your program. It will show in the list of fonts like the rest of them. When program closes...it will go away.
I can also load mine in using ACDSee.

Thanks, Michi - That is a great tip!
I have a ton of fonts that I downloaded and have stored in a folder called fonts and then separated by type, same as Michi. One of my favorite fancy fonts is Chopin and I think it came from daFont. I do tend to use the same ones over and over - Pristina, Papyrus, and ComicSans.
There is a free font viewer called The Font Thing that worked very well in XP, but I haven't installed or tried it since getting Windows 7. You could also temporarily load fonts with it.

Just got LD Marooned free from some site - maybe scrapNfonts (http://www.scrapnfonts.com/searchdetail.php?psku=11894). They were giving away 10 free fonts. I've used this font on my El Yunque (http://www.digitaldesignden.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=229&title=el-yunque&cat=524)LO on the words San Juan. This font is so cool.

Wonderful font recommendations here! Some I have, some I don't... yet. ;)
I use X-Fonter to view my fonts. (Also use ACDsee sometimes.)
With X-Fonter you can load the fonts, as you asked, Athena, and there is a pane which shows how the font will look in whatever words/sentence you type. You may install the font, if you wish, simply by clicking a button. If you just load it, it will "go away" once you close the program you are using. Great program, but it did cost $20 or something like that. I understand there are other programs that do relatively the same thing but are free. I didn't know that when I bought it. ;) Love your tip too, Michi!! I didn't know that!

Hi Athena,
On a PC you do not load fonts into any single program--they fall into a folder which is one of the Shared Folders so that any program that is installed on your computer that uses fonts---can have them, not just Photoshop. You will find the font folder in your Control Panel in Windows. Installing fonts TO this folder is VERY easy (even easier than ever in Win 7) but included in my class (FUNdamentals of Photoshop) is a section that shares:
1) download and extract the font from its zipped folder
2) RIGHT click on the font itself and
3) copy (or ctrl+C) the font
4) Open the control Panel and position the cursor arrow on top of the font folder there
5) Right click and Paste the font, and it will install.
(Win7 users---extract, view and push the install button--it's automatic)
Caution: A gazillion fonts which show in Photoshop with a teeeeeeny image (Photoshop power users, adjust your preferences NOT to display them if you wish) of what they look like have the possibility of slowing the program some, so get in the habit of saving the ttf to a separate folder you make and then "pruning" your font folder now and then. I save this font folder to a thumbdrive so I can always have a TOTALLY current and up to date folder full of fonts to view. Caution: Only remove a font you personally have added, to the shared font folder in the control panel though--don't take out any font your computer came with. If after you've installed a font, you drag that one you copied into a totally separate folder where you store them, you can ALWAYS go back again and re-install it. (I'm talking two folders here, one where you store your downloaded fonts, and the other where you access them in any program. (And one other thing--minor but important: Have Photoshop CLOSED when you install a font)
I like Styopkin Font Viewer (http://www.styopkin.com/)
Others are listed here (http://digitaldesignden.com/forum/newreply.php?do=newreply&p=2551) that might interest you
As for me personally---my most used are probably Pegsanna, Jazzed, and Sanvito, but I also run a number just for special projects like Jurassic and Chocolate Factory, Disney--then I take them out of the shared folder. I purchase fonts too for mega projects or for things I'm going to publish.
Hope this helps!

Fonts, fonts, fonts! As long as we're talking about fonts.....is my face red! I have just over 1000 of them installed...and another 5243 on my drive in folders! YIKES! I use Priss' recommendation, Styopkin Font Viewer. I used to use the Font Thing until I upgraded to Win7, then it wouldn't work any longer.
As for my favorites, that is a bit like asking which child is my favorite (or would be if I had more than one child :D):
Script fonts:
Satisfaction - I actually purchased this one for commercial use some years ago
PF Champion Script Pro - ditto
Porcelain - daFont.com
Grungy fonts:
Birth of a Hero - daFont.com
Sketch Block - daFont.com
karabinE. - daFont.com
LD Infusion - ? daFont.com
Bleeding Cowboys - daFont.com
Typewriter fonts:
1942 Report - daFont.com (grungy)
Adler - daFont.com
Clean journal fonts:
Santana family -nice sans serif family in several weights...sorry, I don't remember where I got this one...I've had it forever.
Steelfish family - very compressed...clean sans serif. One solid and one outline. daFont, I think.
Dings....I love dingbats. They are wonderful for adding elements to layouts! Two of my favs are Charms BV and Seeing Stars. Both are available at daFont. Seeing Stars is self explanatory. A very nice variety of star dings. Charms BV is a nice selection of stars, hearts, arrows and squares....some in circles, some within square, some plain.
And this only scratches the surface. I didn't mention Wickenburg, a western font, or Floralissimo, a nice combination of flourishes and script, or Chocolate Box, a super nice ornamental font.......see what I mean?
