I've been away for a day or two, so I'm sorry if I haven't answered any emails or made any comments here.

Barry and I flew to Melbourne (very early flight) and then on a bus to Geelong to pick up our new motorhome. It's this enormous great 'thing' on a truck.............it was such 'FUN' driving this through Melbourne looking for our way to the ferry.

We had to put it (and ourselves obviously) on an overnight ferry to bring it back from the Australian mainland to Tasmania (island) where we live.
In the middle of the night the boat hit a very rough patch and I was feeling sick as!!!

Then we had to be up before 6.00 ready to drive off the boat.

I can tell you............I am so TIRED!!

I'll try and catch up a bit tomorrow. :)

that was quite a trip, how long does the crossing take?
Just so I know , we've got friends in Tasmania and have promised to go and see them next time we're coming that way ...dream on

The crossing takes approx 10 hours, depending on the weather. We left Melbourne at 7.30 and arrived in Devonport in northern Tasmania about 5.40 a.m.

Then we arrived in Devonport it was another hour to drive home to Launceston where we live.

Robyn, I'm happy to see you back.

It's exciting and fun to have a new motorhome! Is it hard to drive the motorhome because of its large size?

I don't think I'll be driving it Grace. I would be required to get what we call a medium rigid truck licence. I can't drive it on a normal car licence.

Hi Robyn - glad you are back! That is so cool that you bought a new motorhome - lots of luck with it!

And A and Grace had a great idea - we can all start the party on the motorhome while we are driving it to the shack for the grand finale :rofl2:

Welcome home, Robyn! My DS and DIL have a motorhome as well...we could load it on a big boat and sail to Tasmania to join the party! But I don't think much of being seasick in my car! :(

It's much better to be a passenger and enjoy the ride and motorhome!

Have a TONAFUN ---and happy trails in your new motorhome....from US both! We fulltimed for 6 years, and have always LOVED the lifestyle. Just count on HAVIN FUN! I'd forgotten that Taz was SO FAR from Melbourne (we were scheduled to fly there, and I should have remembered!) I think I remember that those waters have the reputation of being some of the most treacherous in the world....right? Tossing about on a ferry can't be nearly so much fun --as the fun in store in your new "land yacht!"

The purchase price was bad enough...........but it's costing a fortune to fit it out........and I've only just started!!

I just hope that we use it. Given Barry's track record with 'useless toys', that remains to be seen! :(

oh dear just nag and nag till he gives in .

failing that you could always rent it out to recoup some of the costs . There's always people looking for one for a few weeks.

Hey Robyn you and I were going cross country together yet apart. :rofl2: I headed south for an 8 hour trip to the beach in our RV. I can say that walking towards the back while it is being driven is not for me. Even sitting sideways gets me a bit. :rofl2: Of course the kids always need this or that so I try to have a basket of food that they can munch on plus a drink. This time though my daughter was using the facility and all the sudden hubby hit the brake. She said, and I heard, her hit the shower. She said she fell in the tub and thought it was so funny. I'm just glad she didn't get hurt. enjoy your trips when you get the chance!
